Step Two - Phosphorylation of Glucose 6-phosphate

Possible but not desirable!

It is a good idea to phosphorylate both ends of the hexose before you split it in half. But, to keep it roughly symmetrical you would have to phosphorylate carbon 1. You really need to wait until you have a hydroxyl group on carbon 1 before you phosphorylate.
