DIY Glycolysis

Go on to the next step.

Step Ten - Dephosphorylation of Phosphoenolpyruvate making ATP

Product Pyruvate

Excellent. You have regained the ATP which was invested at the start of the pathway and are now in credit. You have also got very close to the target of lactate. Because this step involved spontaneous rearrangment of enolpyruvate to pyruvate there is a very negetive Delta-G, making it irreversible. This gives you a very useful control point near the end of the pathway.

So far two ATP spent and four manufactured. Substrate oxidised by four electrons (two electron oxidation for each molecule of substrate).
