Introduction to Glycolysis Home Page

By Jon Maber for the BioNet Teaching & Learning Technology Programme

This short introduction to Glycolysis is an item in the Biochemical Designs Collection and was produced by Jon Maber, a member of the department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in the University of Leeds. It was produced for the BioNet consortium, which is funded by the Teaching & Learning Technology Programme.

Biochemistry text books will give you the details surrounding the metabolic pathway, glycolysis. This introduction avoids the detail and the individual steps and gives an overview of what glycolysis is all about. I've tried to keep the text short and sweet and to use animations to avoid a lot of verbose explanation.

On all pages selecting the glyceraldehyde logo will bring you back to this home page.

Now that you've got the basics try "Design it Yourself Glycolysis" and get to grips with the detail of the individual steps. Alternatively look at "Step by Step Glycolysis" for a summary and animated molecular model of each step.

Note to Web Weavers. If you want to make links to Introduction to Glycolysis, use the URL of this home page only. The URLs of sub-pages are likely to change as the application is developed. In particular illustrations and some reference material will be added.
